the spark

Sometimes life pauses.

Or, you pause while everything and everyone around you continue to move at alarming rates but no one thinks this is alarming but you.

We stand and breathe but don’t lift hands to do or move feet to go.
We sit and think and ponder but never think our ideas are of worth so we just tuck them away and keep thinking, keep dreaming, keep pausing.

And while we know being complacent isn’t a way to live, we stay. We stay stuck in what seems like quick sand and we don’t even have the energy to raise a voice and call for help.

You forget the greatness of living. You forget they way a hug felt, how a blue sky brought sparkles to your eyes, and breezy days made your soles light and dance-y.

And despite how much it wounds your pride, you realize that you cannot get yourself out of the quicksand. You cannot press that play button. You cannot be you.
You need someone.

You need someone to not throw you a rope but to climb in the quick sand with you and pull you out by the fingertips.
You need someone to wake you up and say, “It’s time to embrace the day,” even as bags fall under your eyes and a drum beats behind your temples.
You need someone to say, “Here’s what we’re going to do. This is a new start.”
You need someone to do that for you because you cannot do it yourself.

And eventually -after a painfully slow process- the curtain will open and the beams of breathtaking light will shine through and you’ll be stunned for a moment. You’ll be stunned still.

But it’s that spark that changes your course. In that moment, no matter how brief, your eyes are open and a glorious life seems -dare I say- possible.

Your hands find work to do, things to create, people to touch.
Your feet find places to go and reasons to go there with people you love.
Ideas and thoughts and dreams become plans and realities and suddenly, you’re living the dream. Your dream.

But it begins with someone pressing play. It begins with a dream. It begins with a spark.

Find your someone, find your dream, and wait for your spark. It’ll come.
It always comes.

I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

He remembered us in our weakness. His faithful love endures forever.
